The pumpkin and regional botanicals (e.g. chicory and ginger root) are delivered fresh to the manufacturer and provide a rich source of soluble fiber to support healthy digestion.

Additionally, marine algae are used as a source of omega fatty acids to support immunity and healthy skin and hair coat.

This dog food is a limited ingredient formula free of chicken, eggs, dairy, wheat and corn. However, you should not forget that it has some ingredients, including botanicals, which could set off an allergic reaction.

Acana Duck and Bartlett Pear Formula is a low glycemic, low carbohydrate diet. It is free of high glycemic grains (e.g. rice and corn). These are associated with obesity and diabetes. High glycemic grains break down quickly, causing a rapid and large rise in your dog’s blood sugar.

Acana Duck and Bartlett Pear is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles.

Detail Ingredient Analysis

Protein: Duck is a new source of protein, which might benefit dogs with sensitive skin and digestion. It is an exceptional source of high quality protein and fatty acids.
Duck meal is a good source of meat protein. It is more concentrated than whole duck. Duck liver is a first-class source of protein that is loaded with vitamins and minerals.

Fat and oil: Duck Fat contains vitamins A, D, E and K and it is a great source of both omega fatty acids (3 and 6).

According to Acana, all of the duck in the food is “passed fit for human consumption.”

Carbohydrates: Lentils are a source of protein, iron and fiber. Lentils are a value font of carbohydrates. However, they include about 25% protein, a feature that must be measured when judging the authentic meat protein content of this dog food.

Fruits and vegetables: Peas provide fiber and protein. Some dogs have problems digesting them properly. Thus they can cause digestive problems and diarrhea in some dogs.

Bartlett pears are high in fiber and vitamin C. They provide choline, some omega-6 fatty acid and some natural vitamin K. Carrots and Pumpkins are good sources of fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Algae and kelp are good sources of minerals such as iron, iodine, potassium, and trace minerals. Kelp helps support health, reproduction, digestion. It helps maintain a healthy stomach and promotes healthy skin and coat.

Peppermint is a digestive aid, eases gas and bloat. It controls flatulence, diarrhea and colitis, for example.

Garbanzo beans are a fiber-rich legume. Chicory root is used to promote the growth of helpful bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract.

Lemon balm is a soothing herb that calms and relaxes. It is also a digestive aid that neutralizes gas in the stomach and intestines. Ginger root helps calm a painful stomach.

Preservatives: Acana uses mixed tocopherols which are natural preservatives.

Sweeteners and dyes are absent in the ingredient list.
