Chicken meal is a concentrated form of chicken protein. Chicken is highly palatable and relatively inexpensive while providing an exceptional source of protein.

Salmon meal is made from real salmon being a highly concentrated source of protein and natural antioxidants. It also is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids, which are important for cognitive function and joint health.

Menhaden fish meal is another protein-rich meat concentrate. Menhaden is a small fish related to herring. It is rich in protein and omega 3 fatty acids.

Carbohydrates: Ground brown rice brown rice is an easily digestible, nutrient-rich grain. Brown rice provides energy to your dog. The bran portion provides essential B vitamins, minerals and fiber. It promotes colon health.

Ground barley provides fiber and several micronutrients including selenium and copper. Barley is also a good carbohydrate source for energy and B vitamins. It has low cholesterol levels too. Barley is a quality grain source and lessens allergic reactions characteristically associated with corn or wheat.

Rye Flour contains fluorine which is responsible for the formation of good tooth enamel and strong nails. Rye has a low carbohydrate and fat content which makes it excellent for obese dogs. Rye flour is also an excellent alternative for dogs with wheat allergies.

Fat and oil: Chicken fat is a high-quality named source of animal fat. It is is rich in linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid necessary for life. Salmon oil is an exceptionally source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Fiber: Oatmeal is full of B-vitamins, dietary fiber and can be gluten-free. Oatmeal is also a great carbohydrate source for energy. It minimizes allergic reactions typically associated with wheat and corn. In addition, oatmeal is known to help protect against heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Ground flaxseed is also a good source of essential amino acids and contains all the essential vitamins and minerals required by dogs. However, flaxseed has been associated to problems with conception with female dogs. Dog breeders must be aware of this fact.

Fruits and vegetables: Tomato pomace is a controversial ingredient. It is a by-product residual after processing tomatoes. It does provide some vitamins and antioxidants (vitamin C, beta-carotene, and lycopene) but some critics argue that tomato pomace is just a filler in dog foods.

Sweet potatoes are outstanding source of potassium, B vitamins and beta-carotene. They provide phytochemicals and carotenoids; sources of antioxidant agents providing natural protection against free radicals.

The food contains numerous fruit and vegetable ingredients – such as tomatoes, carrots, spinach, apples, blueberries – that provide lots of vitamins, antioxidants, fiber and minerals to your dog.

Flavors: Natural chicken flavor in dog foods sometimes refers to a mixture of fresh meat and oils which is sprayed on to the food in the final stages of manufacturing. But it is considered as a controversial ingredient because it is an ambiguous origin.

Supplements: Vitamins and chelated minerals are benefit for your dog’s health.

Dried fermentation products are added to aid your dog’s digestion.

Natural herbal extracts (Rosemary Extract, Green Tea Extract, Chicory Root Extract, and Yucca Schidigera Extract) improve the flavor of food and are believed to be safe ingredients. I completed my degree in Veterinary Medicine in July, 2009. Over the first years as a veterinarian my work was closely related to the animal health field. I have gained some average experience having worked in Barcelona University (UAB) Equine Hospital and by working with veterinarians in Portugal. In addition, in 2009 – 2010 I was in Madrid at the University Alfonso X el Sábio doing an internship in the equine service. I am also very interested in small animal medicine and surgery. In fact I worked in several small animals clinics in Portugal improving my knowledge about small animal behavior and health. Dogs always have been present in my life, since I was a child. At the present moment I have four dogs a Labrador, a Epagnheul Breton, a Whippet and a mixed breed dog.
