Practical calculators for understanding food labels and organising feeding information.

Educational estimates only. A calculator cannot assess body condition, diagnose disease or select a therapeutic diet. Ask your vet about growing, pregnant, nursing, unwell or under/overweight dogs.

1. Dog calorie calculator

Estimate resting energy (RER) and a starting maintenance estimate for a healthy adult. This is not a weight-loss plan or a prescribed daily allowance.

Method: RER = 70 × weight in kg^0.75; maintenance estimate = RER × selected factor. Source: Merck Veterinary Manual. Individuals may need substantially more or less. Monitor body weight and condition with your vet. Pounds ÷ 2.2046226218 = kg.

2. Dog food portion estimator

Convert a calorie target already agreed with your vet into grams using the food’s declared energy. This tool does not decide the calorie target.

Grams/day = allocated kcal/day ÷ kcal/kg × 1,000. Divide by the entered meal count. Treats and other foods must already be accounted for in the allocation. Different foods need separate energy values. Source for label calorie units: MSD Veterinary Manual.

3. Puppy feeding calculator

Split the daily gram amount supplied by your puppy food’s feeding guide or your vet into equal meals. We do not infer a puppy ration from adult weight, predict growth or select a diet.

Grams/meal = daily grams ÷ meals. Meal count is your input, not a recommendation. Use a growth-appropriate complete food; large-breed growth and maturity need particular care. Read the puppy feeding guide.

4. Dog age calculator

Calculate calendar age from a known or estimated date of birth. We do not convert this into misleading universal “human years”.

Calendar arithmetic: whole years and months, plus remaining days. Estimated birth dates give estimated ages. Calendar age alone does not establish nutritional maturity.

5. Dog weight tracker

Record dated weights and see the change from the first entry. Records stay in this browser using local storage; they are not sent to our server. Do not use this as a diagnosis or a target-weight calculator.

Use the same scale and similar conditions when possible. Browser clearing, private mode or changing devices can remove or separate records. Keep your own copy if needed. Unexplained change warrants veterinary advice.

6. Dog food comparison tool

Compare the three foods currently in our source-linked catalogue. Different markets and analytical methods are labelled; higher percentages are not a quality ranking.

See the full ingredient catalogue and sources →

7. Dog nutrition explorer

Explore how moisture changes a declared nutrient percentage. Enter both values from the same product label. This arithmetic does not assess diet adequacy or digestibility.

Dry-matter nutrient % = as-sold nutrient % ÷ (100 − moisture %) × 100. Guaranteed minimums/maximums give illustrative values rather than exact composition; do not infer missing moisture or use the result to prescribe a medical diet. Compare the original label alongside it.
