Portion calculator

Convert a known daily calorie allocation into a measurable food portion.

Use the calorie target agreed with your vet and the energy on the current food label. This calculator performs a conversion; it does not work out what your dog should eat.

What the numbers mean

Daily grams = allocated calories ÷ energy per kilogram × 1,000. The meal amount divides that total equally. If you supply a pack size and price, the tool also shows how long the pack would last and its illustrative daily cost. Currency stays whatever you entered; there is no currency conversion.

A worked example

A 700 kcal allocation and food labelled 3,500 kcal/kg produce 200 g per day. Across two meals, that is 100 g per meal. A 2 kg pack would last 10 days at that amount. If the pack costs £10, the arithmetic is £1 per day, excluding delivery.

Treats, toppers and other foods must be accounted for before entering the allocation. Wet and dry foods have different energy densities. Do not feed a full ration of each. Puppies, illness, weight change, pregnancy and nursing require individual veterinary guidance.
